FAQ's

Are lessons online effective?

Absolutely! Instead of viewing online learning as a ‘replacement’ of real life physical classes, I view it as an opportunity to reach students from around the world who are unable to study with me in ‘real life’. It removes the geographic barrier to classes. I’m working hard to constantly improve the digital lesson experience. I use a good quality microphone, multiple camera angles and interactive software to offer the highest quality sound and visual experience possible.

Are lessons on skype or zoom?

I typically prefer to work on zoom as it allows me to deliver a higher quality lesson. I am able to easily share my screen, add multiple camera angles if needed and use a studio level microphone to improve your audio/visual experience. I am happy to use Skype if it is your preferred platform.

Do I need a microphone or any equipment?

All you need is a steady internet connection, your instrument and laptop/tablet/phone. You are not required to have a special microphone set up or high spec camera.

Are lessons appropriate for every ability?

Yes! In our free trial I will carefully asses your level and help to tailor our lessons accordingly. I will adapt the lessons to cater for a range of students who may be playing their instruments for the first time through to professionals looking to hone their skills in a specific area. I have teaching experience with young children, adults, beginners, advanced students, university students and professional musicians.

How frequent are lessons?

Lessons are scheduled around your availability and needs. In the free trial, we’ll discuss your desired outcomes and, from here, I’ll recommend the best route forward. In addition to our lessons, you’ll have 24 hour access to my personal email/phone and will always reply within 24 hours.

I don’t play saxophone or piano but I want to study harmony and theory.

I am very happy to help you unravel the world of harmony and theory. I have given workshops and classes to students on many different instruments and can tailor classes around your specific theory/harmony goals.

Do you teach flute and clarinet too?

Yes I do! As a professional saxophonist, I am often required to perform on the flute and/or clarinet. I love the instruments.

Do you speak mandarin?

Unfortunately not! However, I am TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) qualified and have over 3 years teaching experience for students who speak English as a second language. I work weekly with piano/saxophone students who are looking to improve their musical ability and English language ability simultaneously.
